Cristal Champagne is a brand name of a Champagne created by Louis Roederer. Cristal Champagne has a flat-bottomed clear, "crystal" bottle, anti-UV cellophane wrapper, and gold label. Broad awareness of its high price has given the wine an illustration of exclusivity that, in turn, has raised demand: it is, estimated a Veblen good. The most recently released vintages are 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2002, and lastly 2000.

Cristal Champagne was first founded in 1876 by Alexander II of Russia and is observed by many as the first prestige cuvée. As the legislative situation in Russia at the time of his rule was uncertain, the Tsar feared death. He ordered that Cristal Champagne bottles for his Three Emperors Dinner be, made clear so that he could see the bubbles and also prevent hiding a bomb beneath them, as could happen with a standard dark green indented bottle. Louis Roederer ordered a Flemish glassmaker to produce a clear lead glass Champagne bottle with a flat bottom. The Champagne now becomes known as "Cristal".

The Cristal Champagne was not commercially feasible until 1945. In the mid-1990s and early 2000s, the Cristal Champagne brand shifted frequently connected with hip-hop culture and music, with various artists referencing the Champagne in song lyrics and as part of their public image. Including, Sean Combs, 50 Cent, A$AP Rocky, The Notorious B.I.G., Raekwon, Big L, Yung Lean, Hollywood Undead, Jay-Z and Mac Miller. The nickname "Crissy" is seldom used for the drink. Tupac Shakur invented a cocktail called "Thug Passion", which is a combination of Alizé Gold Passion and Cristal. In an interview with The Professor in 2006, Louis Roederer managing director Frederic Rouzaud said he viewed the recognition from rappers with "curiosity and serenity." Asked if he believed the association would harm the Cristal Champagne brand, he replied, "that is a good issue, but what can we do? We cannot forbid people from buying it. I am sure Dom Pérignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business." Subsequent analyses and reactions to these statements appeared in the brand's loss of position in hip-hop culture. Cristal went from signifying the rappers' default to being discarded, an instance of this was Jay-Z delivering a statement saying he would never "drink Cristal Champagne. Alternatively, promote it in any way what so ever or serve it at any of [his] clubs" for what he felt was off-hand, patronising disrespect for the culture of hip-hop
